Guild's article purports that multicultural education is a sensitive topic for a number of reasons, among these is the issue of the way culture effects students' learning styles. Research has shown that students of different cultures exhibit different ways of learning. Educators need to acknowledge these differences to make sound decisions and develop effective curricular materials. Since different learning styles call for different approaches, well-planned activities can prevent cultural conflicts. A more complete understanding of the relationship between culture and learning styles can aid in developing multicultural education.
The May 1994 issue of this journal is devoted to the topic of Educating for Diversity.
